How can clearing your criminal record help your future?

On Behalf of Law Office of William G. Causey Jr. | Jan 24, 2025 | Criminal law

A criminal record can feel like a dead end. But it shouldn’t stop you from moving forward in life. While many people miss out on jobs, homes and loans because of past mistakes. This doesn’t need to happen to you, especially if you can clear your record through expungement.

What does expungement mean?

Expungement removes eligible criminal records from public view. After expungement, when most people ask, you can legally say you don’t have a criminal record. This fresh start helps you move ahead without records holding you back.  Here’s how expungement changes live:

Better job options

By expunging your criminal record, you can get hired by more companies. This means you can earn more money and you won’t need to tell employers about your past. This also means that your past won’t block possible promotions.

Life gets easier

With an expunged record, your chances of getting approved for a mortgage, school applications and other loans might get easier. This means life would generally be better.

Legal rights improve

Expungement also allows you to retrieve your voting rights, apply for work licenses, and sometimes carry a gun.

These benefits show why expungement matters. Each state has its own rules about which records you can clear. Some crimes don’t qualify for expungement, but many do.

If expungement might help you, consider talking to a criminal defense lawyer who knows your state’s laws. They can tell you if you qualify and guide you through each step. The process takes time, but the results last forever. A quick chat with a legal professional could open doors you thought were closed for good.
